Abstract

Nowadays, English is considered the language of science and arts in the world. But it gained this status a few centuries ago. The fact is that whether it is English, Latin, or French, these three languages have been influenced by Arabic. In the tenth century AD, Arabic sciences and arts were first translated into Latin. Later, Latin evolved into French, English, and other European languages, and thus many words and terms of Arabic sciences and arts were transferred to these languages. The Arabic language also directly influenced these European languages. In this article, we have examined the influence of Arabic on European languages including Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, and German. Arabic had a direct impact on all these European languages and many words and terms of Arabic became a permanent part of these languages. Even today, there are a large number of words and terms of Arabic origin in these languages which have been clarified by Arab and European researchers.
